Bhutan Tsholung Tours & Travels

Courtesy & Etiquette

Wherever you go in Bhutan, you can just greet people by saying “Kuzuzangpo La” meaning “hello”. For seniors and elders, the Bhutanese bow their heads a bit and say “Kuzuzangpo La” (a more respectful greeting). Recently, shaking hands has become quite a common and accepted norm but you should always do with both the hands at a time. Bhutanese people will never give one hand for hand shaking.

You can always take photos of the outside of monasteries, but inside is restricted. Monasteries and temples are considered sacred. People are generally happy to pose for pictures, but do ask for permission if you are focusing on one person. Do not photograph a member of the Royal Family even if they are present at a festival or gathering with you. Your local tour guide will be always with you.

While circumambulating temples, chortens (Stupas) and prayer flags, always walk in a clockwise direction.
